Jackson Hole Summer...So Much to Do!

Jackson Hole summer is glorious! Many people move there for the skiing and then stay for the summer.

The heavy snows finally melt, leaving behind colorful fields of wildflowers and lush vegetation. The tiny rivulets of the high peaks turn into streams and then creeks that swell the rivers. The herds move to higher ground to graze on summer's abundance.

This mountain playground offers an enormous menu of fun. In summer, the adventurous can enjoy wild whitewater rafting, absolutely exhilarating paragliding from the summit of a high peak, world-class rock and mountain climbing, very early morning hot air balloon rides and helicopter tours.

Less adrenaline-inducing activities are fly fishing, golf and tennis, hiking galore (both easy day hikes and more difficult hikes up into the mountains), road and mountain biking , boating on big Jackson Lake, horseback riding, camping, remote and accessible hot springs, scenic float trips through Grand Teton National Park and unlimited nature photography.

There are plenty of cultural activities too, with Teton Village offering an elegant music festival, with nationally-known names, as well as fabulously hedonistic spas. The town of Jackson offers numerous art galleries, playhouse/theaters, a real rodeo and tons of shopping.

On the Fourth of July, Jackson puts on the best fireworks display that I have seen anywhere! It's at the base of Snow King Mountain. Folks bring picnics and spread blankets on a grassy softball field at dusk and wait while their kids run around in glee. Worth the wait. The finale is always quite a show and seems to go on forever!!
