Jackson Hole Scenic Float Trips are for Nature Lovers
The Snake River undulates through Grand Teton National Park and here you will find Jackson Hole Scenic Float Trips. There is no white water here. Just ten miles of serene, naturally-flowing mountain river surrounded by untouched land. Guides will paddle for you as you enjoy the view. Information about Grand Teton National Park, its wildlife, waterfowl, history and geology is part of the trip. The trips run about two to three hours long, but the rate of river flow will affect the time spent covering the distance. Obviously, you'll float faster in early summer when the river is swollen. The season is from mid-May to late-September, with more frequent boat launchings in summer. Sunrise float trips will probably be your best bet for viewing and photographing wildlife, especially large animals such as moose, since they are less active during the heat of the day. Chances are you'll see wildlife, but there are no guarantees since the trip operators don't contract with the animals! But, if you're lucky, you might see moose, deer, elk, bison, beaver, pronghorn antelope, coyote, golden or bald eagles, osprey and maybe even a bear!Wear comfortable clothing, and layer to allow for changes in cloud cover and temperature. If it rains, ponchos are provided as are life vests in any weather. Make sure you bring a warm jacket or sweater for cooler temps. Your shoes should have soft soles, like sneakers. Absolutely bring sunglasses and sunscreen even if it's cloudy when you start out. This is the Rockies and weather can change dramatically. Hats with visors, water bottles are recommended. For viewing, bring binoculars if you have them. And, please be willing to share with passengers who don't. Photographers should have extra film or memory. Don't miss out on that once-in-a-lifetime shot because you were overexcited early into the trip and took all your photos too early! Very young children (under six) are not a good idea or even allowed, for safety reasons. Currently, there are four outfits that run scenic float trips within the national Park boundary. They are: Solitude Float Trips - $50/adult and $30/child (307) 733-2871 or (888) 704-2800 Barker-Ewing Scenic Float Trips - $55/adult and $35/child (ages 6-12), (307) 733-1800 or (800) 365-1800 Triangle X Float Trips - $55/adult and $38/child, (307) 733-5500 (888) 860-0005 Signal Mountain Lodge Scenic Float Trips - $53/adult and $32/child, (307) 543-2831 These prices are current for 2008.
