Jackson Hole Lodging Includes Lodges in Grand Teton National Park - Isn't This Why You Come to Jackson Hole in the Summer?

Yes, it is. The main event here in summer is really the park. Jackson Hole lodging is great to find in Jackson, Teton Village or elsewhere, but Grand Teton National Park lodging offers the opportunity for immersion in nature which is what people seek here in the summer months. Make your reservations way in advance since these accommodations are very popular, for obvious reasons. All reservations are through Grand Teton Lodge Company. Call (307) 543-3100 or (800) 628-9988 to reserve your little piece of Rocky Mountain heaven. Listed in order of price (lowest to highest), your options are:

COLTER BAY VILLAGE -

This little community is right on the shore of Jackson Lake. There are no telephones to disturb the peace, no televisions to amuse the youngsters, or even radios. Just the sounds of the birds and the wind through the lodgepole pines. The village does have two restaurants, food and gift shops, laundry and shower facilities, a service station and a full-service marina. If you're traveling by RV, there is an RV park with 112 spaces providing electrical, water, sewer and picnic tables. $35-$52/day.

Tent cabins are constructed with log walls and canvas roofs and provide the feeling of camping but are a step up in comfort because they have double decker bunks. You can rent sleeping bags and blankets. $43/day based on double occupancy, $6 per extra person, $5 per cot.

Colter Bay Village has 166 log cabins for rent too and some are older and charming. They vary in size...sleeping up to six people. Most have a private bath. Rates for 1-2 people range from $49/day to $179/day depending on the cabin's size and features. There is a campground here also.

JACKSON LAKE LODGE -

If it's the grand view you want, stay here. Set on a bluff and looking across a huge expanse of willows, Jackson Lake and the Tetons will satisfy any hunger for scenery you might have. Willow Flats is a guaranteed place to see moose too. This is the Park's largest lodge, with 37 rooms in the main building and 348 cottage rooms nearby. The grand upper lobby is...well, grand. Enormous windows frame the Teton view, so the view is just as accessible in bad weather. There is a dining room serving three squares and a very cool grill that has a has counter-style (retro) seating for dozens at a time. The bar features entertainment. Nice gift and clothing shops. This lodge has 17,000 square feet for conferences. No TV or radio here either, but there are phones, voicemail and data ports so you can stay in touch with the world you're trying to escape. $199-$209/night for no view, $269-$279/night for a view and suites are $459-$650/night.

JENNY LAKE LODGE -

This is rustic elegance at its finest. Thirty-seven log cabins, decorated in the style of the Old West, skirt the quiet lawns here at the base of the Cathedral Group (the peakiest of the Tetons!). This is luxury without the hoopla of a large hotel. No TV, no radio, and you have to request a telephone, but why on earth would you? Jenny Lake Lodge is where you come to dine sumptuously and cozy up in your own little log cabin in the shadow of the towering peaks. The dining room serves a 5-course prix fixe menu, to die for. Lots of hiking and lakes (Jenny, String and Leigh Lakes) nearby. I was married here many years ago. It was the first wedding held here, and I don't know how my father talked them into it. It was a magical setting for a wedding, in early September. We all gathered on the green lawn and gazed up at the first sprinkling of powdery snow on the high peaks. Sigh... have deep pockets if you go today. Rates are currently $550/night for half a duplex cabin ($150 each for extra people). Suites are $725 to $785/night. Breakfast and an outstanding dinner included. Men, bring a jacket for dinner and ladies please dress accordingly. People not staying here can enjoy this special dinner too, but make reservations in advance. You will feel like royalty on retreat. Princess Grace of Monaco used to stay here with her family, and I'll bet they felt right at home!

So, Grand Teton National Park provides some interesting options when deciding on Jackson Hole lodging. You're away from the action in the towns and villages. Not much nightlife here, but you're compensated with wildlife, scenic vistas, serene hikes, jewel-like lakes and peace. Consider the park when looking at Jackson Hole lodging options.
