Jackson Hole hotels found in Teton Village offer everything from soup to nuts, and maybe a massage thrown in!
THE ALPENHOF -
This lovely Tyrolean style inn is very dear to my heart. My family's first trip to the area included a stay here. The original owners were an Austrian couple.
They bent over backwards trying to make us feel at home. Anneliese, the wife, even loaned me her sneakers to wear on a whitewater trip. I don't know if they still go that far...I also worked at the front desk there back in 1974, while expecting my son. That same son, married in Jackson Hole 31 years later, had his rehearsal dinner party in the upstairs bistro. He and his wife began their married life in an Alpenhof suite. It has retained its charm all these years and is still my favorite in the Village. The dining room has always offered a very nice Old-World kind of experience and the chefs have all excelled through the years. You can't get any closer to the tram than this! (307) 733-3242.
THE HOSTEL X -
This place is iconic in Teton Village. It's a no-frills kind of hotel. The Hostel offers extraordinary affordability in an increasingly upscale ski village. The Wilson Family are the original owners and operators. The family has produced some legendary Jackson Hole skiers. I once saw one of them drop off the chairlift on Apres-Vous, turn 180 degrees, hit the slope perfectly and ski down through heavy crud as if it were the lightest powder. The lower level of the inn is like a museum of the history of Jackson Hole skiing. There are games and other amusements there as well. If you don't want to spend all your dough on a room, The Hostel offers clean, bare-bones rooms, with private bath and maid service, at a very low price for the area! (307)733-3415.
FOUR SEASONS RESORT -
Fancy-schmancy. Huge. At the time it was built, I believe it was the largest building in the state of Wyoming...in this little village! Maybe it still is. I had a problem with this concept originally, but now that it's there, I have to say that it's a beautiful addition to Teton Village. The resort is slopeside at the base of Apres-Vous Mountain. It is service-oriented, has a full spa, and caters to those who just want to be pampered. Decor consists of lots of lustrous wood and stone with comfortable, inviting furnishings. There are 124 guest rooms, which includes 18 suites. Jackson Hole hotels don't get any more chi-chi than this. (307)732-5000.
SNAKE RIVER LODGE & SPA -
This RockResort inn is housed in a building that has seen several other names through the years. Now though, RockResorts has resurrected it as a luxury destination, also next to the slopes. RockResorts used to own the two Grand Teton NP lodges, so they have a longtime presence in the valley. Laurence Rockefeller founded RockResorts in 1956. His family was instrumental in preserving this beautiful place and creation of the national park. Now, the corporation is part of Vail Resorts, Inc. Avanyu Spa is located here. All in all, a classy place to stay. (307)732-6000.
BEST WESTERN THE INN AT JACKSON HOLE -
The ski lifts are 100 yards away from this inn, and the Mangy Moose Saloon is even closer. The Inn at JH is an older, but refurbished building which offers 83 non-smoking rooms, from standard to loft suites, all decorated in western casual style and many with fireplaces and/or kitchenettes. The hotel actually seems a bit motel-like due to the set-up. The doors from the rooms open to the outdoors rather than an inside corrider. Dining includes Masa Sushi on site... a good sushi restaurant featuring Chef Masa Kitami. Also, they are set up to handle meetings/conferences up to 100 people. (307)733-2311 or (800)842-7666.
TETON MOUNTAIN LODGE -
This slopeside (next to the gondola) condominium-hotel has 145 rustic guest rooms and suites. It is the creation of well-known extreme skier Rob DesLauriers. Featuring the Solitude Spa (named for a high Teton mountain lake), services are geared towards natural/herbal products and relaxation. A rooftop studio offers yoga and Pilates...even a heated (108 degrees) studio for Bykram Yoga. There are indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. The hotel can accomodate large conferences, with 6800 square feet of meeting space, as well as event planning services. Go spoil yourself! (307) 734-7111 or (800) 801-6615.
VILLAGE CENTER INN -
Economical lodging right next to the aerial tram (in winter) and the music festival hall (in summer). The 16 studio rooms have kitchettes to further stretch your vacation dollar. A sporting goods store and a cafe are on the ground floor. This hotel is right smack-dab in the center of Teton Village activities. (307) 733-3990 or (800) 443-8613.
HOTEL TERRA -
Teton Village now has a boutique hotel that is eco-friendly in the Terra.
There are 72 rooms and suites, which are privately owned yet rented out as hotel rooms. All have lots of windows and techie toys such as flat screen HDTV, hi speed wireless, DVD, iPod docking station and Bose surround sound system. As if that isn't enough, the rooms are contemporary and stylish, with gas fireplaces and in-floor heating!! There is a spa, a rooftop hot tub and a sporting goods store too. The young lady who showed me around commented that the decor is so chic that you don't even feel like you are in Jackson Hole!! And...this is supposed to be a good thing??? She meant, of course, that the style is decidedly not mountain-rustic. I give the place a "A" for its environmental conscience though. Go green in a place that makes you think of how important the stewardship of natural beauty really is to us all. (303) 739-4000 or (800) 631-6281.
These Jackson Hole hotels in Teton Village will delight the most discriminating traveler, but also will accommodate the frugal ski bum/backpacker.
