Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis - The Scenery Makes the Bad Shots Bearable

Jackson Hole golf and tennis offers several options. But with so much to offer in the area, most people won't want to limit themselves to just golf and tennis alone. Go to Palm Springs for that. No offense to Palm Springs meant, but hey, it's a desert there and Jackson Hole is a paradise. Yes, I am severely biased. The Jackson Hole golf and tennis season is roughly from early May to late October, depending on weather and snow cover. I guess Palm Springs doesn't worry much about snow cover.

JACKSON HOLE GOLF AND TENNIS CLUB -

This is the original course in Jackson Hole (since 1965). This beautiful golf course is in the middle of the valley, south of the airport, and thus has the best Teton Range views. The golf course, redesigned by Robert Trent Jones II in 1973 at the request of Laurance Rockefeller, and recently re-designed by Trent Jones in 2004, has been consistently praised as Wyoming's best by Golf Digest Magazine. The club has undergone a recent $15 million renovation of both the course and the clubhouse. Additional amenities include tennis, swimming pool, fitness center and the North Grill for dining.

Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club is a private membership club offering limited resort play (non-member) during non-prime hours. Packages for "stay and play" are in conjunction with Grand Teton Lodging Company and the Snake River Lodge and Spa, all properties under the umbrella of Vail Resort Properties. Contact the hotels or the golf club directly for more information at (307) 733-3111 or (800) 628-9988.

TETON PINES GOLF AND TENNIS CLUB -

Designed in 1987 by the man who also gave his name to a refreshing beverage (half ice tea/half lemonade), golf-legend Arnold Palmer, with Ed Seay, did a smashing job with the Teton Pines course. This course received accolades from Conde Nast Traveler in 2004. It was built on former ranch land and therefore is relatively flat. The club is semi-private, so public access is allowed after noon. Greens fees run from $57 to $195.

Tennis features six hard latexite courts and two clay-surface courts. Several tennis courts are covered for winter play. Court fees are $16/hour/person. Instruction is available for both golf and tennis. Contact them at (307) 733-1005 or (800) 238-2223 .

3 CREEK RANCH -

This private member-owned club offers an 18 hole, 7600 yard golf course, designed by Rees Jones, as well as private fly fishing in its three pristine creeks. The rustic clubhouse has Teton views, a heated pool, tennis, dining and fitness center. The three creeks on site, for your own private world of fly fishing, are Spring Creek, Cody Creek and Blue Crane Creek. Native cutthroat trout spawn and abound here. The season is from June 1 to October 31.

Membership is by invitation only. You have to submit a proposal for membership. For information, call (307) 732-8904.

SNAKE RIVER SPORTING CLUB -

Running adjacent to the Snake River for over six miles, this private 18 hole course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, is about a 20 minute drive south of Jackson. Additional nearby amentites include an equestrian center, fishing, whitewater rafting and in winter...nordic skiing and even helicopter skiing to untracked powder!! Call (888) 434-7772 for more of the scoop.

SHOOTING STAR

This 18 hole semi-private golf course, designed by Tom Fazio, will open in 2009. It's location, on land which is part of the Snake River Ranch, is in Teton Village at the base of the Jackson Hole Ski Resort. Fish Creek meanders through the development.

This is not just a golf course. There will be a lap pool, hot tubs, tennis courts and a clubhouse with fitness center and spa. They are selling real estate here too (naturally!). In winter, the course will offer rolling nordic skiing terrain. Call (307) 739-1908 or (877) 739-8062 for more information.
